YEAR 2

Dear Parents,

Welcome to 2021 and I hope it’s going to be a success filled year. I have been excited to see my lovely students back at school. Being their teacher for the 2nd year in a row has made it easier for the students to settle into their daily routines.

We ask you to ensure that your child’s take-home reader is read every night and that their reading diary (yellow book) is signed and returned to school every day. It is important that they read the books sent home from school to consolidate at their ability level. Books are generally meant to be easy to develop confidence and comprehension (understanding) but at times can be a bit challenging. Encourage and celebrate all your child’s efforts and ask them questions about each book after reading to ensure that they understand what they have read.

Reading Eggs and Mathletics tasks are assigned every week and should be completed on time as they expire after a week. Your child’s login details are pasted on the inside of their yellow reading logbook. The maths homework book will be sent on Thursdays or Fridays when I feel students have grasped the concept so that they are able to complete the homework task with some support. The book should be back at school on Monday.

You will also be informed by SEQTA DM if homework is assigned on MyEd. Please check your SEQTA messages regularly.

Spelling words are now practised at school using the Spelling Mastery program and a test is completed every Friday. Students will no longer be bringing home the homework booklet to practise words like in previous years. I will however be sending some high frequency words (words commonly used) home for students to practise reading and spelling them.

Looking forward to your continued support and working together as a team to support your child in their learning journey.
